Thanks to the Internet, many people with landline phones who still rely on the operator for assistance, won’t be able to starting in the new year. AT&T has announced it is discontinuing both 411 for information and dial 0 for assistance starting on January 1st. Both services will be dropped in 21 states. Other telephone services have already phased it out, and AT&T already got rid of it for wireless customers a year ago. The ease of the Internet and diminishing landline use across the country has been making these services obsolete. AT&T says it has only 8.5 million landline customers in the country.
